  • Each horse has its own window

Here you see the Sebastian K's window. Information is arranged using tabs which you see at the top of the window (just below the border saying "Sebastian K (S), 2006 ...")

  • Foals displayed in sortable list

The picture shows the foals of Florestan. You can double-click any of the column headers to sort the list by that column.

  • Pedigree and statistics

Pedigrees are displayed in 6 generations and on the left you see various statistics on inbreeding, generation interval, sirelines, maternal family. Not displayed is information about x-factor sources and bloodline origins (Sebastian K is, according to our database 32.92 % French, 0.10 % Russian/Orlov (through Kozyr in Telemaque V's pedigree) and the rest American bloodlines)

  • Results from big races

Race results from big races are continuously added. In the picture you see the Prix d'Amerique 2014 results. Top-5 finishes are also seen in the horse window

  • Comprehensive sire statistics

The picture shows the analysis of French-born Tibur, the sire analysis shows how any stallion has produced given various pedigree specifics in the dam (e.g. who is damsire, is dam inbred etc). Each such category is arranged in tabs, which you see on top

  • Auction catalogue

The picture shows the auction catalogue for the Norwegian 2014 yearling auction. By clicking any horse you can easily see pedigree, videos (if link available), siblings, maternal family and key statistics on pedigree. You can enter comments directly into the program, then print out your personalized catalogue (and only for the horses you are interested in)

  • Stallion directory

The stallion directory is searchable by country, price and sirelines. With two mouse clicks you can test mate any of these stallions with your broodmare. The home pages shown can be opened in your web browser using one click.

  • X-factor horses

The list of X-factor horses in Sophia is stored in a personal datafile and does not follow the database itself. This means that users must define their own x-factor horses. This is, however, really simple. Just click "Add" and select the desired horse to mark as a known x-factor carrier. Here you see 4 mares often mentioned as likely x-factor mares.

  • Pedigree coloring

On the pedigree tab you can color pedigrees in many different ways, including, as one can see, one can highlight known x-factor horses (those defined above), possible x-factor horses (those who might carry because they have a known x-factor horses in the correct position in their pedigree) and also so-called "x-doubles" (explained below).

  • Pedigree coloring: known x-factor horses

Coloring known x-factor does exactly that, it highlights any of the horses identified above as known x-factor carriers, in this example Margaret Parrish and Oniska as they are in the list of 4 identified x-factor horses.

  • Pedigree coloring: x-factor paths

When selecting "color possible x-factor horses" you graphically see possible x-paths from known x-factor horses. On the bottom left the x-factor carrier Kathleen is chosen. If we look at Broadway Diamond (the dam), she has Kathleen in x-factor position in her pedigree, the path going through Nutmeg Lobell, then Speedy Crown, then Missile Toe, then Florican, then Florimel and so on. At the bottom you also see a blue line stopping at Florican (and not going on to his son Spectator - this is because a father cannot pass on the x to a son. (The same is the case with the blue line stopping at Speedy Somolli on top.)

  • Pedigree coloring: x-factor paths 2

Same as the image above, but in this case Hatteras is selected as the known x-factor horse.

  • Pedigree coloring: x doubles

Another concept which Sophia introduces is X-doubles. This is simply any horse that appears twice (i.e. doubled) or more in x-factor positions in the first 6 generations of the pedigree. The horse does not have to be defined as a known x-factor carrier.

  • Pedigree coloring: x doubles 2

Another pedigree illustration of X-doubles, in this case with the Winbak foal Well Grounded.

  • Pedigree context menus

By right-clicking on the pedigree a context menu is displayed. One of the options is to run a "combination analysis" but as you see, many other analyses are available, as are options to change display settings, saving the pedigree as a jpg and other options.

  • Combination analysis

This shows the combination analysis for Well Grounded, which includes information on maternal family and statistics on horses in the last 3 generations, various pedigree statistics, inbreeding information and x-factor information, as well as performance statistics on various pedigree combinations at the bottom.
